My heart really goes out to the masses of single moms out there. I have talked to hundreds of you during parenting weekends. I love you. My heart goes out to you. There's a couple things that I want to say to you. One, you are not being asked by God to do what only two people can do. You just can't. You can't think that now, you have to be the man and the woman. You're only going to be the woman. You're only going to be the mom.
You Are Not the Only One Who Lives With Limits
Now, think about this. You're not the only one that lives with limits in this fallen world. We all get faced with some kind of limits. Those limits are God's choices for us. Usually, they're limits that we wouldn't have set for ourselves. We wouldn't have written our story this way. There are limits that God, in His sovereignty, has placed on us.
Don't think that because you live with those limits, that God's turned His back on you. Don't think because you have those limits placed on you being the only parent when there should be two parents, that that means it will never turn out well. Know that God is for you. He is with you. He is in you. You have not been forsaken by your Lord.
Now, what you need to do - and sometimes this is hard to do, but it's very important - swallow your pride, admit your weaknesses, and reach out for help. Let people know when it's not working. Have people that you can call in moments when you're just crazy. Ask for help when you think you're at the end of your rope. Invite those supportive people to help you parent.
Again, you're not without resources because God is with you and God has surrounded you with the love of the body of Christ. Don't think that you have to be heroic and try to do what you can't do. I think this is true of all parents. Maybe all good parenting is rooted in my ability to admit my weaknesses and seek help.
