We forget that human beings made in the image of God do not live life based on the facts of their experience, but based on their interpretation of the facts. Every person is a theologian. Every person is a philosopher. Every person is an archeologist who will dig through the mound of their existence to make sense out of life and so, I'm always carrying some kind of worldview to money.
Money Is Never Just Money
Money isn't just money. The pieces of paper in my wallet with the imprints on them represent a whole view of myself and a view of the world, and a view of right and wrong, and of wise and foolish, and of calling and of God's will.
What's represented by that piece of paper is huge and significant, and it's very, very important for me to be aware of that whole superstructure of thoughts and desires that I bring to my money because it's not just that I'm shaped by how much money I have, I'm shaping the way I think about how much money I have and what its purpose is in my life; and it's what's underneath the physical money and the physical budget that is so terribly important.
