While we're thinking of the comforts that you can run to in moments of trouble, there is no comfort more comforting than the comfort I'm about to talk to you about. It is the comfort of God's presence. You know, when Jesus was on the cross, something incredible happened, the great heavy curtain separating us from the Holy of Holies was torn from top to bottom in a miracle of powerful grace, and that signified that by grace, we could rush into God's presence. Oh, but there's more. God has made us the place where he dwells, as Jesus sent His disciples off to represent him into a hostile world, a world where they would experience a wide variety of trouble, he said, but remember, I go with you always, even until the end of the age.
God's Greatest Gift Is Himself
You know what God's greatest gift is. It's not a thing, it's not a place, it's not a theology, it's not a story, it's not some kind of medicine. God's greatest gift to us. Are you ready for? This is himself. What does God give you when you're weary himself? What does he give you when you don't know what to do himself? What does he give you when you're weak himself? What does he give you when you doubt himself? What does he give you when you're discouraged himself. What does it give you when you want to quit himself? What does it give you when you don't have a clue what to do himself?
What does it give you when you're wracked with worry himself? What does it give you when you don't feel like getting out of bed, you want to pull the covers up over your head himself? What does it give you when you want to deny and run himself. His best gift is himself. And when he gives you himself, he gives you all of his glory, the glory of His wisdom, the glory of His faithfulness, the glory of His mercy, the glory of His forgiveness, the glory of His power, the glory of His love, His presence, means this, all that God is. He gives us by grace, all that He is, He is to us by grace.
When you have nowhere else to run, how about meditating on how about celebrating his presence? He is with you, even when you don't recognize that He is and all that He is, He is for you by grace.
