You know, asking what is my favorite verse on Christmas and the incarnation is sort of like asking me which one of my children is my favorite? It's very hard, but I think that the passage that I think about the most is Isaiah 9:6. "For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government will rest upon His shoulders, and His name should be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
The Names of Jesus Tell the Whole Story
In the names of Jesus is the complete content of the Christmas story. Sin reduces us all to fools and we need wisdom to come to us. Wonderful Counselor, Everlasting Father: We need to be restored to the family of God. We need God's fathering care. Wonderful Counselor, Everlasting Father, Mighty God. Sin has power over us that we can't break. We need a God of awesome power to break our bondage.
Prince of Peace. How wonderful it is to think about the fact that we can live in eternal peace with God, peace that will, again, destroy any struggle, any brokenness in our hearts, and we will live with Him and for Him and satisfied by Him forever. Those names tell the Christmas story.
