Well, we're talking about the gospel and sexuality, and we're looking from 1 Corinthians 6 at these four wonderful worship principles. The first one was the principle of mastery. I will not be mastered by anything. The second principle in this passage is the principle of eternity. Paul talks about the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the guarantee of our future resurrection.
Why the Principle of Eternity Matters
Now, why is the principle of eternity so important? Well, I cannot live right here, right now in any place in my life as if this is all there is because if you don't live in light of eternity, then you load all of your hopes and dreams, all of your meaning and purpose, all of your inner sense of well-being into this moment.
What you actually try to do is you ask the fallen world to be something to you it can't be. That is paradise. We'll never experience paradise this side of eternity, Paradise is to come and so, I have to always live in any place in my life with one eye toward eternity, and not ask people and places and the body of another person to provide paradise for me. If I do that, I'm going to be always frustrated, I'm going to be always driven, I'm going to be always hungry, I'm going to be always searching. I'll never find rest.
There's another thing that this principle of eternity does. It promises to me grace for the here and now to face the struggles of desire and temptation in in ways I couldn't face it before. Because if I've been guaranteed a place in eternity, if there's a place grace has guaranteed for me, then it means I also have guaranteed all the grace I need along the way. Because without that grace along the way, I'd never make it to that place in eternity.
Here's what I'm trying to say. The future-grace of eternity promises, guarantees for me all the grace I need in the here and now, even in the most intimate act of a human being - sexuality - I must live in light of eternity. And the next video, we're going to look at the third of these four wonderful worship principles that just make sense out of sexuality in the ways that our culture is just unable to do.
